RF-1 (Research Formula One) is the result of 6 months of full-time dedicated exploration of canine metabolism research, dating back to the 1920's. In the first half of the 1900's, a great number of studies were done on dogs in order to make inferences about human metabolism. While the common metabolic pathways between humans and canines allowed much to be learned about humans, the most reliable truths that were revealed relate to dogs. This research, along with more recent studies, was carefully examined and this evaluation allowed me to compile a list of every nutrient that had ever been scientifically proven to be necessary or useful in promoting canine health and athletic performance. Further, we were able to dial in toxic and therapeutic levels for each nutrient. Ultimately, through this process, I was able to create target levels for each nutrient I hoped to provide in RF-1. The next task was to find an array of ingredients that, in just the right relative proportions would meet these target ranges, while not exceeding a reasonable caloric limit. After all, a large part of the diet management challenge lies in meeting all nutritional needs without providing excessive calories. This challenge called for the efficient presentation of nutrients.

In order to accomplish this, I devised a computer program in which I could enter the nutrient profile of a number of high quality ingredients and it would calculate the ideal levels of the best combination of ingredients for reaching our array of nutrient target values. Through this process, Research Formula One (RF-1) was created and perfected. This formula quickly became the preferred nutritional conditioning and maintenance supplement for dog owners and professional conditioners worldwide.

It should be noted that there are numerous, advantageous sub-plots that were invoked in formulating RF-1. For example, studies revealed that specific ratios of dietary vitamin C, B complex vitamins, chelated iron and chelated copper significantly improve blood hemoglobin capacity to transport oxygen.
